Plot
Alisha, a yoga instructor, is working on an app and is having a hard time finding investors while also dealing with her unemployed writer boyfriend, Karan with whom she feels suffocated. She also suffers from anxiety due to the death of her mother who committed suicide when Alisha was young. When Alisha was young she was close to her cousin Tia and stayed close to her in Mumbai but later Alisha’s dad shifts their family to Nashik. Alisha believes that their shift to Nashik effected her mother as she felt suffocated there and committed suicide. A now grown up Alisha, has a broken relationship with her father as she blames him for her mother’s death.Alisha Khanna, 30, ambitious, now finds herself at a crossroads in life. Her 6 year-long relationship has grown monotonous, her career seems to be hitting a lot of roadblocks and just when she had begun to accept this reality as unchangeable, her life is usurped by the arrival of her cousin, Tia and her fiancé, Zain, with whom she bonds over a troubled past and a common wish to break from its confines. The story charts the journey of Alisha and Zain, as they confront the ghosts of their past on the path they take to avoid it.
Alisha’s cousin, Tia, who is also close to Karan, invites the two to their Alibaug beach house. Alisha and Karan meet Zain, Tia’s fiancé. Zain initially worked as an assistant to Tia’s father but now has his own firm and is working on a big project. Zain and Alisha quickly bond due to their traumatic past and he begins to flirt with her. They continue to flirt with each other even after the trip and Alisha kisses Zain during a meeting. However during the same night, Tia who is going to LA for 2 weeks comes to meet Karan and Alisha along with Zain. Alisha learns from Tia that she has read Karan’s draft of his novel while Karan didn’t let Alisha read it. Alisha and Karan argue and he leaves to drop Tia to the airport while Zain comes back to Alisha’s apartment where they hook up and begin an affair. While on Zain’s yacht, Zain and Alisha help an old couple stuck in sea and introduce themselves, the old woman tells them that she has a daughter named Alisha too. Zain’s company also invests in Alisha’s app and they begin to develop feelings for each other.
However, during Alisha’s surprise birthday party hosted by Karan, he proposes to her and she accepts. Alisha ends things with Zain, returns his investment and focuses on her new life with Karan. Later she finds out Karan lied to her about his book which got rejected by a publisher. Angry and hurt, Alisha ends their engagement. Zain reaches out to Alisha and tells her he wants to be with her and will end things with Tia soon. Alisha agrees and they continue their affair. Zain’s company invests in Alisha’s app and give her a new yoga studio. Zain decides to return Tia’s investment. However, one of Zain’s investors is caught by the police in a case of money laundering and Zain’s firm comes under investigation. Zain’s manager, Jitesh, advises him to take money from Tia as they have no option left. Tia agrees to mortgage the Alibaug Beach House.
Alisha on the other hand finds out she is pregnant. Zain convinces her to abort. Alisha starts feeling distant to Zain while Tia begins suspecting that he might be having an affair. Alisha’s yoga studio is closed by officers and she barges into Zain’s office to talk to him where Jitesh deduces that Zain and Alisha are having an affair. To convince Tia to mortgage the Beach House, Zain takes her to Alibaug where Tia accuses him of having an affair but Zain is able to convince her and she agrees to sign the papers. Alisha meets Karan accidentally who reveals to her that Tia is helping Zain as his company is dealing with financial issues and both of them are in Alibaug. An angry Alisha, shows up at Zain’s house and accuses him of using her and gives him an ultimatum to reveal the truth to Tia by tonight or she will.
Zain meets with Jitesh who convinces him to murder Alisha in order to save the company. Zain calls Alisha to his yacht and lies to her that he ended things with Tia. Alisha accidentally sees the messages on Zain’s laptop and sees him mixing tablets in her drink. Horrified, Alisha tells Zain she wants to go back. Zain attempts to push Alisha into the sea but accidentally trips and drowns. A frightened Alisha is able to drive the yacht to shore and rushes back home. The next day, Zain’s body is found and Alisha along with Karan stays with Tia. Jitesh who knew about Zain’a plan threatens Alisha to get him the Alibaug papers or he would tell everyone the truth. Alisha does so and Jitesh is able to cover up Zain’s death as suicide and tells Alisha to take this secret with her to the grave.
Alisha’s father who had come to visit Alisha had seen Zain leave Alisha’s apartment the day he died and questions Alisha about it but she ignores it. Tia later reveals to Alisha that the Alibaug Beach House was in Alisha’s name as Alisha is the illegitimate daughter of Tia’s father. Tia reveals that Alisha’s mother and Tia’s father had an affair and everyone knew about it except Alisha. Alisha is hurt after knowing this and apologises to her father for always blaming him for her mother’s death. She also reveals to him the truth about Zain and cries about becoming just like her mother. Her father assures her that she can start again and both of them agree to mend their relationship.
2 years later, Alisha has a much better relationship with her father and tells him to move to Mumbai with her. Alisha attends Karan’s engagement party where she meets Tia. Alisha apologises to Tia for not keeping in touch. Tia wonders if revealing the truth to Alisha was right but Alisha reassures her that she would never have a good relationship with her father if not for Tia revealing the truth. It also becomes clear that Alisha hasn’t revealed Zain’s truth to Tia. Tia and Alisha agree to start again and mend their relationship. However, Karan introduces them to his fiancée’s grandmother who recognises Alisha instantly (she is the same woman whom Zain and Alisha helped). The movie has an open ending as to whether the old woman would reveal Alisha and Zain’s affair or not.
